The British Virgin Islands are a remote cluster of islands and things cost more to get it there.  Expect topay a premium on the mainland.  When you find an inexpensive bar or restaurant, look after them and tip well. 

 

If you plan on staying on Tortola on the shoulder of your sailing trip, consider a car hire to get around and explore the island. 

 

Accommodation is expensive and fills up quickly, so get in quick.
