Sailing across the turquoise waters of Greece, Croatia, Italy, and Thailand while guiding guests through hidden coves and vibrant island towns sounds like a dream, but a skipper's day at Med Sailing Holidays seamlessly blends expert seamanship, local knowledge, and warm guest hospitality.

Behind every effortless day on the water is a skipper ensuring total vessel safety, planning optimal routes, and delivering an unforgettable island-hopping experience aboard our Lagoon 42 catamarans and Oceanis 48 monohulls. Here is what a typical day looks like behind the helm, and what it takes to turn this maritime lifestyle into your full-time career.

The Daily Rhythm of a Med Sailing Skipper

  • 07:00 AM – Weather, Systems & Coffee: Long before guests wake up, the skipper reviews wind forecasts, swell reports, engine oil levels, bilges, and rigging. Meanwhile, the onboard host brews fresh local coffee and prepares breakfast in the cockpit.

  • 09:00 AM – Morning Briefing & Setting Sail: Over nautical charts, the skipper reviews the day's route, weather conditions, and safety guidelines. With lines cast off, guests relax on sunbeds or learn hands-on seamanship during a 2- to 3-hour morning sail.

  • 12:30 PM – Dropping Anchor in a Secluded Cove: The skipper navigates into a quiet turquoise bay, verifies anchor holding, and deploys paddleboards and snorkel gear. While guests swim, the host serves a fresh local lunch in the shaded cockpit.

  • 03:00 PM – Afternoon Passage & Harbor Navigation: Capturing peak afternoon sea breezes, the yacht sails toward the evening port. Upon arrival around 05:00 PM, the skipper executes Med-style mooring against a town quay or secures a mooring buoy.

  • 07:00 PM – Local Insights & Night Checks: The skipper shares insider recommendations for family-run tavernas and sunset cocktail bars before conducting final deck and line checks for the night.
